Description
Ca' dei Diamanti Grand Canal
A DISTINGUISHED ‘DES RES’ FOR 6 in the Palazzo Donà Della Trezza - a 13th century Venetian-Byzantine Palace on the banks of the GRAND CANAL
Caressed by jade green (and occasionally aquamarine!) Canalazzo* waters and blessed with enthralling, gondola-bobbing, dual-aspect views, this handsome ‘House of Diamonds ’ sits in a corner-hugging position on the ground & 1st floors of the palazzo connected by stairs
Sharing this stretch of the famous waterway with its glitterati-attracting neighbour** in the atmospheric and labyrinthine San Polo sestiere, Ca’ Dei Diamanti Grand Canal offers upside down-style accommodation, purposely configured to make the most of those dazzlingly awesome views!
‘Modern Venetian’ in decor, air-conditioned**** throughout and near the Rialto markets and cicheti-serving bacari just a few twists and turns away, this refreshed 3 bedroomed property provides a washing machine*** and Wi-Fi and comprises -
• Your very own private front door leading directly into the apartment from the lantern-lit Calle Del Traghetto De La Madoneta, moments from Campo San Polo - one of Venice’s largest and most impressive, palazzo-fringed squares
Ground Floor
• A spacious double bedroom - simple and pared down in style - with a double bed, a pair of windows facing the Grand Canal, oriental rug-topped wooden flooring, plus a raised mirrored wardrobe to the rear of the room
• Reached via a few steps - a restful second double bedroom to the middle of the apartment with partially beamed ceiling, Marmorino walls, woodblock flooring, ample wardrobe space, a double bed above a glass panel framing a 13th century water well beneath (!), plus a marble en suite bathroom with bathtub and shower over
Staircase rising to the…
1st Floor
Where a landing with star-embellished beams leads you to -
• A superbly positioned dual-aspect beamed sitting room - lit by the morning and early afternoon sun and showcasing a Murano glass chandelier, a pair of windows on the Grand Canal to the fore and a tall window with balustrade to the side enjoying palazzo-skimming vistas extending down to Ca’ Foscari at the ‘volta del canal’, plus a pair of white leather Chesterfield sofas upon oriental rug-topped wooden flooring
• An elegant dining room to the centre of the apartment - tastefully fashioned and furnished with a series of ornithological prints, a Murano chandelier and matching wall sconce set beneath painted wooden beams, and a contemporary dining suite seating 6 beside a modern display cabinet housing a collection of porcelain vases and antique figurines
• A well-equipped and streamlined kitchen with a tall window with balustrade to the side, integrated appliances and everything you need to rustle up a quick pranzo with the minimum of fuss
• Ca’ Dei Diamanti’s 3rd double bedroom - a dainty little boudoir fit for a fairytale romance! - where a pretty wrought-iron double bed awaits its 2 sleepy bedfellows beneath a charming frescoed ceiling, and polished Venetian terrazzo flooring gleams beside ivory painted walls
And completing the accommodation on the same floor…
• 2 further bathrooms - each with a shower and salmon pink marble fittings
* An alternative ‘local’ name for Venice’s Grand Canal
** The luxurious 5-star Aman Hotel and its wisteria-hemmed canal-side garden within the 16th century Palazzo Papadopoli located just next door - note that its spa, restaurant and bar are open to non-resident guests
*** A separate tumble dryer is also available – quite a rarity in Venice and handy for longer stays!
**** Please note that the operation of air conditioning and heating are subjected to the municipality regulation. Generally, the heating works from middle of October to middle of April, while air conditioning works between middle of Aprile to middle of October. Please contact us for further information.
OUR COMMENT
We just couldn’t help falling in love with Ca’ Dei Diamanti Grand Canal– our new ‘high carat’ love nest promising a flawless Venice stay!
A prestigious address in a history-heavy palazzo, tucked away from the crowds on its landside yet with the excellent facilities very close to hand
Wonderfully positioned between the Rialto area just to the north (with its famous food markets, bacari and tight network of little alleyways and bridges) and to the Dorsoduro district in the south (with its wide fondamente, antique shops and art galleries)
Within seconds of all that’s happening in and around Campo San Polo, and only a few minutes amble to the 14th century Church of the Frari and the Tintoretto-filled Scuola Grande Di San Rocco
Close to 3 supermarkets - a small Coop near Sant' Aponal, a well-stocked Conad near the Frari, and a CRAI Cassa at Campo San Tomà - in addition to a plethora of shops, bars and cafes to satisfy all your self-catering needs
Within a stone’s throw of some excellent local restaurants including the casual, umbrella-shaded Birreria La Corte; the reassuringly old-school Alla Madonna; the charming and tiny Al Ponte Storto; and the very famous and much-celebrated Antiche Carampane - the latter hidden deep within the silent and narrow winding alleyways but surprisingly close to your apartment… if you know the way! ;)
Also an easy stroll to 2 vaporetto stops - San Silvestro (with no bridges to cross in between!) and San Tomà - and to the traghetto gondola ferry at San Tomà for trips across the Grand Canal to the must-see sights of the San Marco sestiere
* Please note that the operation of air-conditioning and heating are subject to municipality regulation. In general, heating is available from mid-October to mid-April, while air-conditioning is available from mid-April to mid-October. Please contact us for further information.

This lovely apartment had beautiful windows facing the Grand Canal. Every morning we watched as real life Venice took place: garbage collectors, boatsmen polishing their taxis, package deliveries. It was as if we were a part of everyday life in an extraordinary city. Great location, away from the crowds and yet near many "destinations".

I would love a list of restaurants within walking distance. A breakfast place (we found one, but it took awhile). Include walking instructions as it is complicated in Venice!

The location of Ca' dei Diamanti Grand Canal is great! Being right on the Grand Canal was magical. Having a dock right at the apartment made arrival and departure stress-free. The apartment was well-equipped, comfortable, and clean. Having the family room area right on the canal made for a wonderful place for our group to meet, enjoy the view, and plan each day. The staff at Views on Venice were fantastic, attentive, and knowledgeable. They alerted us to local events and helped us plan a wonderful excursion to Murano and Burano. We could not have been more pleased with our decision to work with Views on Venice!

The apartment is wonderfully quiet except for the lovely sound of lapping water you hear when in the canal side bedroom. The location is ideally suited to walking everywhere - I especially recommend a daily visit to Rizzaardini, very close by, for coffee and cakes. There are excellent restaurants just a few minutes away yet the apartment is situated in its own quiet but bright calle. You are close to the tourist trail, but if you are wise you visit San Marco early in the morning or at night and explore the rest of Venice during the day. The after hours tour of St Mark's basilica (book online) is amazing. Overall the apartment is excellent: stylish, clean, modern and safe, but the Views on Venice team are exceptional. Don't hesitate to use this company from ordering taxis to groceries to taking your luggage to the airport, and at a reasonable cost. Thank you Views on Venice team, you helped make our holiday special. |

A few steps away from the 18th-century church of Santa Maria Della Fava and close to a host of famous sights and attractions including the atmospheric Venetian time-capsule that is the Querini Stampalia, the fabulous Palazzo Grimani just off Campo Santa Maria Formosa, the Church of San Zaccaria with its crypt and wonderful Bellini altarpiece, and Vivaldi’s La Pietà on the sunny Riva degli Schiavoni waterfront… … A short stroll towards a very sedate pace of life lived out amongst the tranquil calles, canals and green spaces of Castello with its laid-back and very genuine neighbourhood vibe… … Or rise with the lark to embrace the atmosphere of St. Mark’s Square (‘the Piazza’) gloriously near-empty before its visitors arrive… or visit at night when the orchestras of Quadri and Florian play*, the bells of the Campanile (bell tower) toll, the marble of the Doge’s Palace glows, and the mosaics of the Basilica shimmer in the darkness… Close to a host of shops, restaurants and bars including the much-lauded Alle Testiere, the upmarket Bistrot de Venise and Alle Corone of the nearby Hotel Reali, the charming Osteria Al Portego (delicious cicheti!) and Osteria Ae Sconte, plus Ristorante Santa Maria Formosa with its tables on the campo. Also within easy reach of 4 well-stocked supermarkets – a Despar at Calle al Ponte de la Guerra, a COOP at Salizada San Lio, and a COOP and a Despar on the Riva del Carbon (near the Rialto Bridge), along with a ‘Vino Sfuso’ (wine on tap) shop on Calle del Mondo Novo and a greengrocer’s stand at Campo Santa Maria Formosa. Within a short stroll of the vaporetto (water bus) stop at Rialto for exploring the city, the ‘Traghetto’ gondola ferry carrying passengers across the Grand Canal between the Riva Del Carbon and San Silvestro in the San Polo district and the vaporetto (water bus) stop at San Zaccaria for trips around town, visits to the Lido beaches and to the Biennale Pavilions at Arsenale and Giardini. *Note that performances are dependent on weather and season **Please note that the operation of air conditioning and heating are subjected to the municipality regulation. Tucked away in arty Dorsoduro and beguiling guests with its verdant charm Sits our sublime new Venetian ‘casa’, the serene Corte della Palma… Named after the flourishing palm trees stretching up to the skies from its expansive lawned garden (all yours!) near the pretty Rio delle Romite canal, this peaceful inner sanctum with its highly desirable address promises an exceptional Venetian experience for up to 6 guests. Fabulously positioned just a few doors down from the famous old-school Locanda Montin and one bridge (and a short alleyway) from the sparkling Zattere promenade, the recently remodelled Corte della Palma takes its interiors to the next dimension with bold design imaginatively paired with traditional pieces and object d’art. A million miles away in mindset from the (sometimes) madding crowds of Venice and offering abundant space to kick back and let the outside world slip by, the property comprises 3 luxurious and tranquil bedrooms with accommodation spread over the ground and 1st floors (reached by stairs). Counting Wi-Fi, air-conditioning* throughout and a washing machine / dryer amongst its attributes along with an aura that clearly announces that this is a special place indeed, the property is reached via the ‘blink and miss it’ Calle degli Occhialeri (Street of the Opticians) and comprises: Ground Floor A private front door opening into the entrance hall of the house which in turn leads into… A bright and utterly delightful open-plan main living space composed of… A sitting area with cool stone flooring (a treat for the feet during warmer weather), a large L-shaped sofa with additional velvet tub-style seating ideal for chilling, a wall-size handmade mirror with antique finish realised by Ongaro e Fuga on the nearby glass-making island of Murano, all lit by a rare and spectacular 19th-century French ‘Pampille’ crystal chandelier Arch-headed French doors leading to a charming wooden-decked internal courtyard shaded by fabric ‘sails’, furnished with cushioned seating and doubling up as an ‘al fresco’ sitting room when the weather is fine A stylish dining space with a contemporary dining suite hosting 6 guests lit by a second antique ‘Pampille’ chandelier, and a glazed door opening to reveal Corte della Palma’s remarkable and gorgeously grassy 200sqm walled garden boasting a wonderful furnished paved terrace / loggia illuminated by Venetian hand-blown lanterns at night for memorable dinners beneath the stars, freshly planted flower borders beside characterful herringbone paving, an ancient and very charming ‘vera da pozzo’ wellhead that would have been used in years gone by to provide the residents of the house with fresh water, and a pair of sun-loungers with parasol on a further terrace beneath the palm trees… a slice of pure heaven… who knew Venice had such gardens?! A modern and well-equipped kitchen with sparkling marble worktops and everything one needs for rustling up an Italian feast** A pristine contemporary bathroom in polished marble with shower Stone stairs rising to the… 1st Floor, where we find Corte della Palma’s 3 deluxe bedrooms, each with traditional terrazzo flooring and whitewashed beams overhead… The restful principal bedroom dressed in pink and greys with a double bed, a Les Dominotiers Sovana Grisaille bespoke panoramic wall mural from the long-established Luise Parati of Padua, and a contemporary en suite bathroom enrobed in striking grey and white marble with shower A splendid 2nd double bedroom with delightful garden views, a double bed dressed in shades of pink, turquoise and mustard, wallpaper from the Japanese Khroma Kimono Collection by Masureel and a separate immaculate bathroom with shower shared with… The bijou 3rd bedroom overlooking Corte della Palma’s internal courtyard, dressed in dramatic teal blue and Midnight Walk wallpaper from Caselio and with a (small) double bed **Alternatively get in touch for further details of ‘A TAVOLA’ – VOV’s new purpose-designed and professionally equipped Venetian Home-Kitchen – situated almost opposite Corte della Palma on the Rio delle Romite canal, where we celebrate the Italian passion for great food, wine and good company through informal, hands-on COOKING CLASSES with menus focusing on traditional Italian and Venetian cuisine along with easy-going and informative sommelier-led Italian WINE TASTINGS – we hope to see you there! OUR COMMENT The rare gift of a garden and a beautifully curated home brought together in a perfect package in the Dorsoduro sestiere! A short amble to one of the last remaining gondola workshops still in operation in Venice at San Trovaso, the picturesque Campo San Barnaba, the Accademia Bridge and Galleries, the newly reopened Ca’ Rezzonico Museum of 18th century Venice, the iconic Church of the Salute, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, the Palazzo Cini Gallery, plus the Punta Della Dogana Center of Contemporary Art… … Also close to a variety of fine restaurants and bars including Locanda Montin, Ristorante Riviera, Enoteca Ai Artisti, Oniga, Osteria Al Squero and Cantine del Vino già Schiavi (a favourite with the locals and home to some of the best cicchetti in town!) An easy waterside stroll to the well-stocked Conad supermarket at the western end of the Zattere for easy self-catering and to 4 vaporetto (water bus) stops – Zattere, Zattere Spirito Santo, Accademia and Salute – for easy travel around the city (note that St. Mark’s Square can be reached by vaporetto from Salute in under 5 minutes on Line 1!) Within easy reach of the Alilaguna boat stop connecting the Zattere to Venice's Marco Polo Airport and close to the traghetto at Calle Lanza / Calle del Traghetto San Gregorio which, during operating hours, ferries passengers by gondola across the Grand Canal to the district of San Marco. *Please note that the operation of air-conditioning and heating are subject to municipality regulation. In general, heating is available from mid-October to mid-April, while air-conditioning is available from mid-April to mid-October. Please contact us for further information.
